Anahita (Ana) Verahrami (she/her), PhD Student

Ana is broadly interested in utilizing passive acoustic monitoring systems and novel technology to increase our understanding of the complex relationships between anthropogenic disturbances, ecosystem health, and species’ activities, behaviors, and survival, specifically focusing on the forest elephant species since 2016. She aims to continue to develop her understanding of these relationships while simultaneously expanding our capacity to make informed decisions that benefit both people and nature. Ana received her B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies from Cornell University in 2017 and her M.S. from the Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology at Colorado State University in 2023. She has a special interest in and strong commitment to completing her work by cultivating collaborative partnerships with other stakeholders, nurturing trust and the transfer of diverse forms of knowledge with the communities she engages with, sharing conservation narratives and stories using a wide array of media types, and practicing and promoting conservation action grounded in environmental justice and community-based participatory research.
